What was the moment that made you decide, “I want to learn freediving”?
The moment of awakening was, in fact, the moment I fell in love with the ocean. It reminded me of a sense of belonging that had always been within me.
Back in 2016, while snorkeling with my family in Xiaoliuqiu, I watched sunlight ripple through the water, shimmering across reefs and sand. In that instant, I felt a powerful sense of belonging—like coming home. Since then, I’ve kept returning to the sea, again and again, to chase that pure connection.
Freediving became the perfect way to live with the ocean. It has carried me across the world, opening new adventures and revealing the beauty of every sea. I feel so lucky to have found this path.
What kind of state of mind and body is freediving for you?
For me, freediving is about recognizing my own smallness, while trusting that I am strong enough.
In each breath-hold, both mind and body return fully to the present—no distractions, only focus. Every sensation becomes amplified, and I learn to allow emotions and physical responses to rise, then gently surrender to nature. In that surrender, I find my truest self.
When I move through the water, there are no roles, no boundaries—only the present moment. And in that moment, I experience one of life’s rarest freedoms.
How do you find the balance between “relaxation” and “control” in the ocean?
In the ocean, relaxation and control must coexist.
I center my focus on the core, letting every movement flow from there—using strength more efficiently and avoiding unnecessary energy loss. Relaxation allows my body to move with the rhythm of the sea, while control guides the direction of that energy. When the two come together, the body naturally finds harmony with the ocean.
Freediving sounds beautiful, but for many it also carries risks. How do you face fear?
Awareness – Experience – Move through – Let go.
For me, fear is a necessary journey. I start by noticing it, allowing myself to fully experience and feel it. The more I understand what lies behind fear—the lessons and wisdom it reveals—the more I can move through it. With that deeper understanding, I slowly learn to let it go.
Each time, this process brings new insights and brings me closer to myself.
If a girl dreams of the ocean but hasn’t dared to start—just take the first small step
Everyone has their own pace. Start small—float, feel the sunlight, sway with the waves. Approach the ocean, and it will slowly enter your life. You’re never alone—I’ll be here to guide you every step of the way.
Which dive spot would you most recommend?
My favorite is where I first discovered freediving: Xiaoliuqiu’s Beauty Cave. It’s a place where sea turtles appear often, and floating alongside them, even sharing a glance, is both precious and fascinating.
I also want to share an attitude: in the ocean, be a gentle visitor. Respect the ever-changing nature, leave no trace, and take only memories. Every place has its own story, and when we appreciate it with care, we receive the ocean’s beauty in return.
What matters most to you in swimwear?
Because I have sensitive skin, comfort is my top priority. In the water, a sense of safety and ease affects everything. HÁI swimwear not only provides that security, but its quality and cut also bring a refined elegance. Wearing it makes me feel more confident—a confidence that lets me fully focus on being myself and letting my inner light shine naturally.
