HÁI Career Women - Stephanie, a software engineer!

What makes you want to become a software engineer?

I wasn’t into studying back in college and never thought of becoming an engineer. It was not until I met a professor in my senior year who got me interested in writing codes. I then started to map out my engineering career!

What are the advantages and disadvantages of being a female software engineer?

I feel like being a woman today in Taiwan still has disadvantages at work. Most people, including family members, expect you to care for your family. And not going to lie; it’s exhausting balancing life and work! However, being a female engineer has its perk when you meet senior engineers at work; they are usually happy to guide you through tasks. 😝

Is there anything that you don’t like as a software engineer?

My thoughts are the clearest late at night, so staying up late writing code is the norm. I also experience wrist pain from just using the computer for too long. My life is pretty much about computers!

How do you relieve stress?

Funny thing, I sometimes play video games to relieve stress. Eating nice food and catch some sleeps also help. Oh! and just being with my pup!

Do you wear our collection on vacation? How do you like our swimsuits?

Yes, I do! They are so comfy and stylish!

What advice would you give to young women who want to do this job?

You have to be passionate about programming since there are always new skills for you to learn. You will have to keep up with the trends. You won’t last long if you don’t show some interest in this job.
