Can Babies Go to Hot Springs? 5 Safety Essentials for Parents

Taking your baby to a hot spring sounds adorable but is it safe? Here's what parents of infants (0–2 years) need to know before soaking together.

1. Age Matters: Only After 6 Months

Babies under 6 months shouldn't soak. After 6 months, short, supervised sessions are okay if the baby is healthy.

Checklist:

  • Can hold head up steadily

  • No eczema or asthma

  • No fever or illness

2. Choose the Right Water Type

Go for mild, mineral-light springs. Avoid sulfur, acidic, or iron-rich waters.

Best: Plain spring water, bicarbonate ("beauty") springs
Avoid: Sulfur, acidic, and iron-rich types

3. Control Water Temperature and Time

Keep water between 36°C–38°C. Limit dips to 5–7 minutes.

Tips:

  • Test with your hand

  • Use ladle to warm baby up gradually

  • Watch for red skin or discomfort

4. Always Support Your Baby

Use both hands or baby-safe floatation gear. Never leave the baby unattended.

5. Aftercare: Rinse and Moisturize

Rinse with fresh water, pat dry, moisturize, and bundle up warmly. Hydrate with milk or warm water.
